ABOUT…

Benjamin James is a multi-platinum award-winning record producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music director with two decades of experience making music across genres, cultures and continents. With over 950 million streams to date, his work spans everything from independent alternative records to chart-topping mainstream releases, united by a belief that great music begins with great artistry.

Originally from the UK, Benjamin began his career as a founding member of the critically acclaimed alternative duo Bitter Ruin, touring internationally alongside artists including Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Ben Folds and The Dresden Dolls. With a degree in contemporary guitar and advanced training in classical piano, voice and music theory, his foundations as a musician have shaped an unusually broad approach to songwriting, arrangement and record production.

Over the past decade, Benjamin has developed deep connections within the Vietnamese music industry and the wider Southeast Asian creative community, collaborating with some of the region's most exciting artists. His credits include MCK, Vũ Cát Tường, Hoàng Thùy Linh, Ngọt, Dương Domic and many others. Among his notable achievements, his production of MCK's Anh Đã Ổn Hơn reached No. 1 on Billboard Vietnam and won Song of the Year at the 2023 WeChoice Awards.

Beyond the records themselves, Benjamin's passion lies in artist development and the creative process. Equally comfortable as a songwriter, instrumentalist, arranger, producer or engineer, he brings together the musical and technical disciplines needed to take an idea from its earliest beginnings to a finished record. His approach is rooted in collaboration, curiosity and a commitment to finding what makes each artist genuinely distinctive.

Uninterested in formulas, fleeting trends or imitation, Benjamin believes in music with character, intention and a human connection. Music that doesn't simply sound good, but means something.
